| In my state (Washington), you have to take a quick eye test right there at the DMV before you can get your license or permit. If you can't pass the test, they won't give you your license until you get your vision corrected. In order to pass the test, you have to have at least 20/40 vision. If you think you will not pass, you need to talk to an eye doctor. | |

| I can't really say about your state's laws between State DL and vision. Over here in Virginia, you can take a signed physician note to the DMV saying you are able to drive and certain restrictions may be written here say you have to have a handicapped permit signed by the DMV or you have to have vision exams every two months in order to keep your DL active. If you go against the physician's note and you don't get the vision exam or whatever he said are the requirements to have a State DL, then your license gets revoked and you have to contact the DMV for further information. The handicapped tag isn't required for use in the state of Virginia and is only issued to those who have had physician consent of needed the permit. Sometimes, the DMV will sign a tag to hang in your window and sometimes you can have it placed on your license plate. However, they do have strict regulations in Virginia for eyesight and State Driver's License. I don't know the laws about eyesight in your state, unless you lived in Virginia, then I could say more but I know that the eyesight and license vary by state and do not apply as Federal laws or county laws. I only know about my state and choose not to recite those in your jurisdiction unless I knew them fairly well. | |
