how long does it actually take a person to become blind from nearsightness? my vision a couple years ago was 20/240. I have hard contacts but i try not to wear them because they are so painful and irritating. i am just afraid i'll be blind soon.
Stephen 07-29-04 10:40 PM
Dont worry about it millions of people are nearsighted and almost all live life with their vision intact. Nearsightednes is not an indication of potentially going blind I know 80 90 years olds that are nearsighted since childhood and have their vision very much intact. So take a deep breath and dont worry to much. Listen to the eye doctor and if he dosent say anything about blindness then you wont go blind. Secound contacts should not hurt you should never fell them try soft lenses and let the dr know they hurt dont keep it a secret. The secret of them hurting could make you go blind but the nearsightedness will not.

i forgot to mention i wear my glasses all the time too
Stephen 07-30-04 10:22 PM
That really dosent change anything you shoudnt loose your vision unless u have something more than just nearsightedness. If the eye dr. didnt say anything about blindness dont worry about it.

stephen i have noticed in another article you also put some wrong information. you said wearing glasses or contacts for a long time is ok... it is not!! it does ruin your sight and make it worse. im not sure if it actully makes you blind but it does get worse.
Stephen 08-21-04 1:14 AM
Well actually not wearing your glasses can make your vision weeker from them being stressed from trying to focus your incorrect vision. So over time by not wearing your glasses you put higher stress on the eye by it being constantly out of focus that your vision will deteriate over time. Also if you wear your contacts during the day and but remove them to sleep unless they are extended wear lenses which can be left in for 30 days without removal. If you dont belive me check out the fda website. But again not correcting bad vision can make your vision weeker over time. So sorry but you are in error in your response. Vision will naturally get weeker over the span of a persons life so wearing an optometric device or not your vision will still get bad over time. Ask any eye dr in the world and they will say you need to wear your vision correcting device while you are awake. So again get your facts straight before you refute my statment cause your totally wrong.

My vision is 20/25 and have had no problems with nearsightedness. However, I have been through blurred vision which wasn't a problem. Maybe you should talk to an eye professional to see exactly what your risks are and what you can do about it.
