hi! im 14 and im in the 9th grade. ever since the end of the 8th grade i began to have trouble seeing the blackboard. as of now, i can make out most of the words but if the writing is really light and small i see SQUAT! i also have trouble reading signs like from very far away. i'm not sure if i should talk to my parents cuz i heard that if u wear glasses then u have to depend on them for most of the things u do and i think that my vision is not all that bad. i wouldn't want to depend on glasses for everything! i'm 100% positive that my mom would take me to the eye doctor and i would have to get them so i want some opinions b4 i do....ahh! can somebody please reply? i'm desperate!

| I think you should make an appointment with an eye doctor and get your eyes checked. The doctor can tell you if you need glasses and give you the right perscription. I don't depend on my glasses for everything. When i had them i only used them for seeing the board. Now i wear contacts. | |

i had the same problem, and recently i went to the eye doctor, and yes i did need glasses, as u most likely will. i hid that i need glasses for about 9 months, and was constantly on guard, not wanting the nurses office to call my classes and announce i needed to go or w/e. i even had dreams about it, and i was really freaked out. this week, i am ordering glasses, and then in six months, after i am adjusted to them (u have to wear glasses for six months before getting contacts) i will get contacts. i think the worst part was telling my friends, and actually, i have only told one, so i need to get on that right away.

If you experience eyesight problems, you need to talk to a medical professional which I hope your parents approve of. If they don't, that is because there are many people you can talk to in order to get someone to convince your parents that you need medical attention for your eyesight. Things as this can get critical over time, especially when it comes to driving and going into college which is a major part of your life.
