When is the right time to start using tampons?
I can't figure out whether I should start wearing tampons.  So far, I've only worn pads which was fine, but now I'm starting to get really sick of wearing them.  I mean, they're messy, they leak, they kinda feel like diapers, they make noise whenever you move the slightest bit, you can't go swimming or play sports when wearing them, and the list goes on and on.  But I think tampons are kinda scary.  A few of my friends like tampons a lot but some of them still wear pads like me.  Plus, I don't know what my mom would say.  What should I do?

Its never too early to start using tampons. I'm surprised you haven't started using them yet. I used them practically from the beginning of getting my period. I'm sure your mom will understand since tampons are so much better than pads in every way.

Hi there...don't be scared, tampons don't hurt at all. I waited much too long before trying them and I didn't realize how disgusting pads were until I tried using a tampon. So do it next chance you get and trust me, you won't miss wearing those diapers one bit!

How about never! There's nothing wrong with pads and tampons hurt and can make you miserable with the pain, not to mention you can get really sick from wearing them.

I wouldnt quit using pads altogether yet, Do what I did , I bought several different brands of tampons in a travel pack, and I tried them , it took me a few months but I finally can wear them without fear, but i do still wear pads also. I like the playtex tampons I think they were the most comfortable ones I found, and I wear always ultra pads with wings.

my girlfriend wears both pads and tampons and pantyliners
in the daytime she wears a tampon and a carefree thong pantyliner at night she wears a thick overnight maxi pad with a tampon while wearing a thong and its works great for her

Well, you asked whether you think you should start using tampons, given all the "bad" points you listed about pads, it seems like you've already made your decision. If they're messy and leaking, then you should consider managing your change more often. Tampons aren't mess-less if they are too saturated or overflow, contrary to what you may think. Your choice is either an overflowing slate of cotton or an overflowing stick of cotton... neither of which are a nice sight. I use both pads and tampons and have consequently had overflows with each and both of them still make you a mess.

What type of pads do you use? If you use Ultra Thins, consider trying Maxis. Ultra thins makes more noise because of their - well, thinness - causes crinkly noises when you move. Because maxis are thicker and are tighter to the body, it does not make the same noise. There is no limitation to playing sports with pads. I play sports with pads and tampons, either one of them or both at the same time depending on my flow. The exception would only be swimming of course, where internal protection is necessary.

If you want to consider an internal form of protection, but not tampons, there are menstrual cups and sponges available. Using pads, tampons or any other method of menstruation protection does not always denote fear, embarrassment or how "grown up" you are - you use exactly what makes you comfortable. What your mom says only separates the difference of acceptance - it does not change what you can use. After all, do you buy your own protection? If you do, then it doesn't matter what your mom thinks. If you don't, then your mom can either 1) choose to buy protection you want, or 2) you can start to buy it yourself. It is of course nice to seek the advice of your mom and even her acceptance, but what is the most important is what you want to use as an individual. Does your mom use tampons or pads?
