BREAKING AND ENTERING
Ever since I was around six years old, I've been afraId of going to sleep because of what I saw on the news, like people breaking in and killing people. This especially scares me because I live in a neighborhood that's not so very friendly.

Every night I double-check my doors and windows, and get into bed. But then I can't sleep because I'm always checking the doorways and looking around in the darkness to make sure nobody's there. Every little noise scares me at night, but during the day I'm fine, but going to sleep and not waking up scares me to death. Do I have a problem or is this normal behavior?

I think it's not a huge problem, but you can't live your life in fear... the stress will eventually eat away at you.

I don't get THAT paranoid about it, but I do get nervous, because I'm a single white female living in my apt. While my street itself is safe, the street next to mine was busted like two years ago for a crystal meth lab. That plus Law and Order:SVU really freak me out. I mean I think my thing that makes it better is I always have like an escape plan in my head, and my bedroom is at the back of my apt and has a door that locks. I also have two entraces/exits within the apt itself, so I feel a bit safer. I mean so I feel like for me, being a female and living alone it gets really scary, but I would suggest maybe talking about it to someone?? But I also keep a hammer next to my bed so I could give someone a beat-down, or at least have a chance, if they broke in....this probably isn't the best advice. But I guess speaking from personal experience that's what I have to offer.

i went through the same thing, but not for as long as you. at first i didn't do anything about it, then i went to a therepist and it really helped me get over my phobia.

Can you go see your local doctor? This sounds a real phobia and he will be able to advise you how to handle your problem.

you should go to a trusted adult faimly member or school counciler.

Would it help to read a light book until you got sleepy?
