Ear Surgery.?

I am in grade 11, and for all of my life I have had problems hearing. In grade 7 I finally got my hearing checked. As a child I also had many ear infections and had to get a hearing aid, even though I got a choice to get surgery or the hearing aid.

The doctor told me that I had broken bones in my ear, and that it could be fixed with surgery. Well, I thought about it and I want the surgery, but I have no clue what the doctor would have to do to fix my ear bones....

I also want to know whether or not this surgery is very common, and if anybody else has broken bones in their ears. Apparently I had to be hit really hard on the side of my head to break the bones in my left ear, but nobody I know would have done that to me when I was little. If anybody has any info on this topic please reply. :)
