I am a Teen Sex Counselor
I may be only 18, but I volunteer at a local teen clinic. As I read a lot of these stories, I have to say something. A lot of girls who have yeast infections mistake them for STDs. I am not saying that you shouldn't go and get checked out. Every time you change sex partners get tested. But yeast infections are nothing to be afraid of. Any girl can get them. They are caused by sweating, allergic reactions to material on underwear, or lack of good personal hygiene. They are treatable, and nothing to be scared of. I have plenty of girls come in and get tested and find out it's a yeast infection, and start cursing their boyfriends. Honey, they have nothing to do with it. Any girl who has questions is more than welcome to ask. I know it can be kind of embarrassing to talk to someone in person, but through an e-mail can be much easier, so feel free.
