I Think My Friend is Anorexic
Hey. My friend is really making me nervous, and I'd really appreciate all comments back. Here's the story. She was always self-conscious, and she always heavier than all of our friends. Last year she got a new habit of not eating lunch and only at home. She stayed pretty much the same weight, but this year we started high school, and she's totally different. I know for a fact she is overwhelmed with school, but now she seems worse than ever. She won't touch food, and whenever people ask her why she doesn't eat, she doesn't say anything except, "I ate earlier," and I know she didn't. Since last year when she started this interest in weight loss, she has lost about 40 pounds. She's 5'1" inch, and she weighs about 113 pounds. She used to weigh about 137. PLEASE TELL ME ANYTHING YOU CAN. I'm so nervous, and I just want to help her. What should I do? How do I tell her that she isn't doing any good to her body? How do I tell her that she is really ruining herself? Once again. I appreciate all comments and suggestions.

Alright, my suggestion to you is that you should talk to her and say how worried you are. Now from her perspective (it's the only view I've had on the matter), she probably won't care or listen. If she's ignoring you, tell her you're doing this for her benefit - NEVER use the line "you're hurting everyone around you. Give her the ultimatum that if she doesn't try to get help in any way in the next _____ (give her a reasonable time frame - a couple weeks or months) then you will have to tell someone.

But do NOT surprise her by all of the sudden talking to her parents or guidance counselor, 'cause she'll just deny it and most likely begin hating you.

So I guess just see what everyone else tells you or take my suggestion and see if she can get her act together. Hopefully for both of you, she tries. Good luck!
