Why Is It Illegal?
After I started public school, I realized just how much "illegal substances" are used in schools today. I'm not talking about just pot, LSD, or Ecstasy, I'm talking about alcohol and tobacco products too. You are probably saying that these are legal, but most high school students are not old enough to legally purchase these, thus making them illegal for the individual(s).
This fact got me wondering, why is marijuana illegal? I mean, if you go by the facts, more deaths and cancer cases are linked to tobacco than anything else. Tobacco is one of the most addicting drugs there is. People say that marijuana must be worse for you, because it has more carcinogens. Well, what these people fail to realize is that the average marijuana user only smokes enough to get them to the way they want to feel and then stop. Tobacco users, on the other hand, smoke daily and may smoke much more. Also, marijuana has the reverse-tolerance effect, meaning that seasoned users may need less of the drug, while tobacco users need more.
Now for marijuana vs. alcohol. It is often said that marijuana kills brain cells, and this may be true on a minuscule scale, but has never been proven. Alcohol on the other hand not only kills brain cells, but damages the liver much more than marijuana does. Also, alcoholics can go crazy and start fights. People high on marijuana, however, have a high tendency to back down from a fight and just request to be left alone. People who drink and drive suffer severe loss of control over their vehicle, but a study showed that a high driver actually did better than when he was sober. This does not mean that someone who is completely baked should be driving; it just goes to show that it's not all that bad.
So now you're probably thinking, why IS marijuana illegal? Although it will never be admitted to, the American government banned it because they could not make the taxes high enough. If marijuana were legal, farmers could raise hemp, and instead of importing from other countries, we could have easy access to it.
That's all I have for now, tell me what you think about it. I am neither admitting nor denying having used any of these substances. These are just the facts as I see them.
