Ance & Dairy
I have had a bad complexion since I was in grade four. That was 13 years ago. It's always been there. Sometimes it was really bad, but sometimes it wasn't so bad. In the last two years, it has gotten really bad. I cake my make-up on everyday. There has not been a day within the last two years that I have not worn make-up. I refuse to go out if I am not wearing any. Luckily in the past two years, I have perfected it, so people hardly know I am fighting acne. People don't really realize how scarring it is. I come off as very confident and not shy. But it almost feels as if that is an act, as if I am trying to get people to believe I can see passed my complexion and I hope they can do the same. I go home and cry and totally break down. I'm studying TV broadcasting and want to be on-air, but who would want someone like me?

I have tried EVERYTHING: Accutane, blu-light, the PAINFUL laser, birth control, ProActiv, and every cream and pill you can think of. I have done it all. Some have burned me and left my skin dry, the laser was painful, the blu-light left me with what can be described as a sunburn, and the whole emotional part of it ruined me. I remember at about twelve years old taking down all my mirrors and hiding them, because I didn't want to see me. I mentally hurt too. All in all, my parents have been amazing and helped me out every step of the way, dishing out about $10,000 dollars, on my face.

I feel that the doctors don't want to tell the answers that don't give them money. Time and time again, my parents and I heard, "Don't worry, diet doesn't have anything to do with the complexion; let's do another $1,000 laser treatment. I bet that will help." I read somewhere that the hormones in dairy contributes to acne. I cut dairy out of my diet. Three weeks later, my face hasn't seen a new blemish in the last week.

I seriously recommend cutting dairy out of the diet. I am not a doctor, and the only reseach I have is from me, but it is working. SOMETHING IS FINALLY WORKING. I want to share this. If you have tried everything and spent A LOT of money, there is no harm in giving a new diet a shot. What do you have to lose? We have asked my dermatologist several times if dairy has anything to do with acne. He always says no. He has seen a 21-year-old girl sit in his office, crying her eyes out in front of him and he can't say, "I've read something about dairy, give it a shot." No, he has to force nore laser treatments on me. He know it hurts. I cried during every treatment. If I could find an article in the Toronto newspaper about the link to dairy and acne, SURELY he could have too. Isn't that his job? Doesn't he read current articles?

This makes me mad. If you were in my same situation, I'd say try to cut dairy. It is hard but worth it if you want clearer skin. I'm going to a diet specialist, and we are going to see if and when I can start slowing incorperating dairy back into my diet. Hope this helped!

I am lactose intolerant and don't eat dairy at all and I still have issues with my skin. It may work for you but I think that everyones skin reacts differently to different things.

All help is appreciated here. That's what TeenFx is for is to help each other while having fun living as a teenager. I have never tried dairy as a use for acne problems.

He isn't offering any other paths for me. I've tried them all. Nothing worked. He's shoving the laser down my throat. I've done it 5 times ($5000) and all he can say is, "MORE LASER". He forcing these things upon me. All the things I've tried. I know better now, didn't work the 1st time and in some cases the 2nd and like the laser 5 times, so I'm not taking anymore. I got my wisdom teeth out recently and the roots of the teeth were grey, this was from all the meds I was on affecting different parts of me. Imagine what the rest of my inside looks like.
When have you got too far? I've been on meds since I was 13. I'm 21. That can't be healthy.

Your doctor isn't FORCING you to get the treatments. While he may suggest them, it's ultimately your decision whether or not you want to do them.

If you do cut out dairy products make sure you still get enough calcium. Also try eating healthy(salmon, nuts, vitamins) and put on sunscreen that won't clog your pores everytime you go outside no matter the weather.
