I Have PMS, Really?
I'm 19 years old now, and I've had my period since I was ten years old. I never really thought I had mood issues during that time of the month. Sure, I had headaches and felt tired and out of it. Then I went to college and got a roommate.
I was on birth control pills when I entered my freshmen year. I didn't like being on them -- hated the mere thought of weight gain -- but I was extremely heavy, and something had to be done. My schedule became messed up with classes, studying, and the social scene changes. I simply forgot to take the pills too many days in a row and never saw an OB/GYN to restart them.
My roommate noticed a difference within the first month. I was really, really snappy off the pill, and that's not my personality at all. I'm not a mean person, but I definitely wore the "stay away" look all week of my cycle. My roommate finally told me I had to get back on birth control, that I was almost impossible to live with. I'd never had anyone say that to me, and I was surprised that it'd gotten that bad.
I made an appointment with my primary doctor back home. There was still the issue of my forgetfulness of taking pills, so I asked if the patch was a possibility. Why not? It was birth control, and I only had to remember it once a week. It was prescribed. It definitely helps with being irritable, but I have to put up with the heaviness. I'm disappointed at this fact, but it's the lesser of two evils I suppose. Does anyone think one form of birth control helps better in certain areas than another?
