Pre-cancerous Cells
About two years ago, I went for my annual pap smear. It came back abnormal, and I had to go back for more tests. My doctor said that I had the last stages of pre-cancerous cells on my cervix and that it was caused by displasia which is a result of HPV. For everyone that does not know, HPV is a sexually transmitted disease. It has no symptoms in men or women. But the good thing is that there is a vaccine now. It is too late for me, but it is not too late for many of you. If you are sexually active, please talk to your doctor about getting the shot for HPV. It is called Gardasil. It is the only shot that can actually prevent cancer.

Excellent. At least you caught the pre-cancerous cells before it formed into cancer. Get annual pap smears. And once you are eligible for Gardasil, get vaccinated. At least you know you are protected. Good luck! -Emily

Granted this is late but, displasia isn't just caused by HPV. I'm not arguing that yours isn't, but my friend also has displasia and hers wasn't from HPV.

It only protects against cancer caused by HPV, and there are only 4 strains that it coveres.

For me, the vaccine is way too new. The long term side effects aren't even known at this point.

My sister and best friend also have abnormal cells to do HPV.
