Allergic to Earrings; Anyone Else?
I'm allergic to earrings, which is annoying, but what really makes me mad is that I didn't get allergic to them until like a couple of years ago. I would really like to have my ears pierced and my belly botton pierced.

At first I thought I wasn't cleaning my ears good enough, so I took them out and let them grow up. But then four years later I got them pierced again, but of course, they got irritated again.

It makes me really mad because all my friends have their ears pierced, and I don't. I'm hoping I will grow out of it, but my mom  says I probably won't. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or if anyone has outgrown this problem. I was also wondering if anyone thinks I should get tested or if you have any advice for me.

I don't know if there is a Claire's or Icing store where you live but they have hypoallergenic earings that look normal. It's just a different type of metal......I had the same problem...Hope i helped..... :)

i have the same proble, although ive never let my holes filled up, i had my ears pieced when i was 7 and i can onlyy wear gol for like half and hour and my ears start to go red and hurt ALOT so just wear normal gold earings for like an hour then take them out when they start to irritate you and then when it goes down put them back in so that your ears get used to earings but only wear GOLD

you need to take into consideration what type of earrings you had in your ears each time, where they gold or silver plated, where they copper and painted metalic, where they nickel? it may just be that you're allergic to certain types of earrings, such as low grade or low quality ones, or certain types of metal.

People can be allergic to silver earrings, too - but they usually won't cause much of a problem unless they get tarnished. Also, keep in mind that silver tends to leave deposits of pigmentation in your skin and may discolour your ears permanently if you wear it too much.

Try a hypoallergenic metal such as silver, gold, titanium, iridum, or platinum. Those five elements are already in SO many of the things we eat and drink that nobody is allergic to them in their pure forms anymore. Also store your earrings in a sealed container (any jewelry box would do) and clean them with alcohol often. Good luck!

I'm betting your allergic to the metal, nickel. Maybe you should try nickel-free earrings. I know Avon, Wal-Mart and alot of other store carry them. Make sure to read the package. I know a lot of people who are allergic to nickel who have there ears pierced. And body mods. If you get pierced, ask for solid silver or gold jewlry or titanium, I've heard that doesnt cause alot of problems. And "implant-grade" stain-less steel is a good option. I hope I'm of help

this is very common...when i got my ears peirced my ears got infected but i just cleaned it as much as a i cxan and left it alone ignoring the pain and slowly my ears got used to fake earings instead of having to wear real gold or silver, those wont make your ears infected.

What kind of jewelry were you using? Pure gold can usually be worn by the most sensitive individuals, but cheaper metals (including silver and white gold, all the way down to the obvious nickel) can cause problems.
