Vegetarian Diets!
I know, I know, I know. You are thinking, "Why would I give up everything I love to eat vegetables?"

Here's a shocker. I live in Texas, meat capital of the world! Yet I'm a vegetarian AND -- here comes the good part -- I HATE vegetables. I can't stand how dry they taste and how disgusting they look and smell. I don't like salad either.

Now you are thinking, "So you just starve yourself?! And that's how you lose weight." HA! I would be the last person to starve myself. I will proudly admit I love food, especially Asian, Thai, etc.

Anyway, it's proven that a vegetarian diet is the only thing to lose weight and keep it off. I guess that was said with an exception of working out. I went Veggie about a year ago. I started off Vegan then quit and went just Veggie. I lost weight though, and I know it was from not eating meats.

So you're probably have that question everyone gets, "What do you eat then?" I eat a lot of, yes, the dreaded word, TOFU! It's not bad at all. Most people who say it's gross haven't tasted it. When you buy tofu, you are not supposed to eat the white block you see. You won't taste anything that way! Tofu has no flavor and absorbs the flavor of anything it is eaten or cooked with. Morning Star and Boca make some of the BEST veggie food. I eat "chicken" burgers all the time. I also eat things like "chicken" nuggets, "bacon," regular "burgers," "buffalo wings," "burritos," etc. There's almost everything you could find that's a substitute for the meat that sits in your colon.

Yeah, I said it. Meat is bad for you. It's not only one of the top foods that make people fat, it's one of the worst to eat. ALL meats come with steroids, depressents, and other drugs that were injected into the animals to make them grow. Since the animal was injected and then grew, and then was killed, packaged, and then you bought it, and then ate it, you ate the drugs that were put into that animal or animals. Meat also sits and rots in your colons. It is one of the hardest foods for you body to digest so a lot of the times it just sits there and stays, which obviously isn't good.

I don't like to force not eating animals on anyone for any reason, because it's their choice to eat what they want. I just wanted people to know that if they wanted to lose weight and keep it off, being vegetarian helps.

Nothing I said was meant to be offensive for anyone.

I hope this might help someone!

I've been a vegetarian for eight years, and I have to tell you, what you're writing about meat is pretty unfair. I think you're speaking about what you know - but you don't know the rest. Shop for organic and free-range meats. Those would contain no chemicals/alt  ernations/genetic modifications whatsoever. Meat is not bad for humans, but the way we process the meats as well as the way the animals are treated beforehand are inhumane. Meats provide easy and ample amounts of nutrition that (sometimes) may be hard to find in other foods. I myself eat things like tofu, tempeh and seitan and whole grains to help with the protein loss, but only ten percent of the average diet should be protein. Fifty to sixty percent should be carbohydrates (grains/veget  ables/fruits) and as much as thirty from fat (to ensure satiety, proper brain function and processing efficiency in the organs). People get fat because they eat too many calories, and that is nearly the ONLY reason. Weight focuses on calorie intake, health focuses on proper nutrition. Try and incorporate both.
If you're vegetarian, don't eat pudding. Gelatin is often made by grinding animal bones.

Yay! Vegetarians unite! . I've been a vegetarian for 3 years now and going strong. last march i ate some ham by mistake because i thought it was onions (dont ask) but other than that i havent eaten it. I never really liked meat too much except bacon and chicken and the occasional cheeseburger anyway... i first became a "chicketarian" and then we disected chicken in science class and i almost threw up. i must have been pretty stupid but i never really thought about what meat was made of and that it was made of muscle. gross. anyway, overall i dont at all regret being a vegetarian. when i see raw meat im glad i dont eat it ew. the only times i dont like being a vegetarian is when im with guys (who, in general, are in :) with beef, buf chick , etc) and they think im really wierd for not eating meat. i hate that. everyones like who cares its just food? or why are you a vegetarian thats stupid. well im not a vegetarian for any reason really, i just decided to stop eating meat w/ my friend one day and never really had the urge to eat it again... yes, once in chicago when my sister was eating an amazing cheeseburger, but not really. and if i did want to eat meat i could always just eat something that substitutes it (like tofu, etc) because it tastes just like meat. sure, i feel bad for cows who are brought up just to be killed but im not a vegetarian for that reason or because of any religous reason... just because i dont eat it. thats all. and please, people, dont make fun of vegetarians. its ridiculous... you probably have foods you dont like to eat.

Oh wow! I've been so misinformed! ALL meat has steroids??? Even organic meat? This is a revelation!

Despite the fact that it's actually growth hormone (which we produce in our bodies anyway), and the rate of use in mass livestock production isn't as rife as some would have you believe...

As for meat rotting in our colons, if it were really as true as you make it out to be, we'd be horribly bloated meat-eaters: bacteria (which make things rot) produce gas! Now, the bacteria that naturally live in our digestive tracts DO feed off some of the food we eat, but if snakes can digest, say, a rabbit without it rotting and killing them, then I think we can digest a chicket breast. I know snakes have had a lot more time to perfect their digestive system, but I'd also think that 2.5 millions years of omnivore status would have left us in pretty good condition to digest a bit of meat! (1)

Meat and farming are also two of the most important things that we, as humans, have ever done to further our technological (someone reference this for me, please. I just know it's true!) and social (2) advancements. Meat gives us more energy for less consumption time and farming gives us more food for less hunting/gathering time: leaving us more time and energy to spend developing technologies! Yes, this includes hostile technologies (and indeed, one of the first benefits of farming was the ability to have a dedicated army), but without eating meat, we would never have got as far as the internet, and you would never have been able to write this article.

Sorry I didn't reference academic journals, but you often need a subscription to view them.

It's at this point I concur that mass meat production is both cruel and environmentally dangerous. However, meat eating itself is not inherently wrong or unhealthy, we just need to learn to control our natural urges to eat heaps of it! It's a good source of quick energy, like sugar, so our body will crave it before anything else (our body constantly thinks it's going to starve...). If we can overcome this, we can eat meat reasonably. Free-range and environmentally-sound means of meat production should also be encouranged. Slaughter your own chickens! Trap your own rabbits! I would suggest keeping your own cows, but you probably shouldn't eat a whole cow before it goes off.... (though the meat will last a long time in the freezer)

oh my gosh meat wont make you fat if u eat a NORMAL amount of it. i eat meat and im a size 8/10. r u saying thats fat? trust me meat is good for you, and im not a fan of red meat myself but my mum always make me eat it as i need the minerals and protein as most people do.

Ha, yeah right. Meat doesn't cause people to get fat, it's the lack of control. People get fat when they pass a McDonalds and can't resist stopping by and having a burger 4 days a week. Sorry but your argument is silly. And besides that, meat is good for you as long as your not eating the fat. It has iron and protein. Kids shouldn't be vegetarians at a young age, especially since they're not getting the nutrients they need because of the lack of meat in their diets. I know quite a few people that are vegetarians, and all I can see is them always tired and getting sick frequently. A vegetarian diet can work but only if a lot of effort is put into making sure you get all your nutrients, but nobody has that much time on their hands (or that big of an appetite to be able to eat everything you need to in one day).
