I Survived It!
I just got my tonsils removed. I had to get them removed because they were too big, and I was having ubstructed sleeping to the point where I was stopping to breath when I was sleeping. Now after the surgery I have been sleeping a lot better, but it took a lot to get to where I am now. It took a lot of pain and medicine.
The day of the surgery I was so nervous. I walked into the giant hospital so scared; I was like a little dog with its tail in between its legs. I checked in along with my mom, dad, and little brother. The people at the front desk showed us where to go, and we went. We were waiting in the waiting room, and then the nurse called my name. "Tiffany..." I wanted to cry. "Here I am," I replied. I walked down the hall with her. She handed me a gown, socks, and a hair net type of thing. They also handed me a cup (for a urine sample). The nurse showed me to a changing room, and once I was done I then walked to to my gurnies. The nurses asked me some questions and once the nurse was done doing that she put in the IV. I had a couple of minutes with my family until they took me back to the OR.
Then all I remember was them tucking me in, putting all these monitors on me and putting a mask on my face. Out of the corner of my eyes I see the doctors put some medicine in my IV, and he then said, "Okay, you are going to get sleepy now." After that all I remember is waking up in a lot of pain. They told me to drink some medicine, and I started to cry because it hurt so bad to swallow, but I did it. I then went to sleep for maybe two, three hours and woke and went home. The doctors and nurses told me that I was all set, so I left. They gave me some special instructions to follow and sent me on my way.
When I was home I came upon some complications. The medicines that the doctors gave me had codine in it, so I became constipated. But what I did was drink some prune juice, and I was fine. So if this happens to you I would recommend it, but it might cause some stinging, but it goes away. In about a week or so you might start to feel better. You will have maybe one really bad day, and then from there things will start to get better. Until your scarbs come off that will be pretty painful, but like I said this is all happening because you are healing so that things can get better.
My bad day was the third day; this was the day things seemed to hurt the most. You know how the doctors say to eat a lot of ice cream? I recommend smoothies, but do not drink them through a straw; that is not supposed to be good for you to drink through a straw. What I had a was a coffee capiccino from Baskin Robbins. Try to stay away from the fruity type of smoothies that have a lot of acid in them. That was my experience. I hope you get well soon!
