Desperate
I could *really* use some help here.

For as long as I can remember, I've had decent skin; not oily, and I rarely broke out. But as of late, that's all I've been doing. It seems as if after one breakout finally clears up, another one emerges. But there are a few factors you should know.

First off, I've had continuous surgeries over the last few months for a different problem altogether, and part of the aftercare treatment is steroids. Yeah, I know. Kill me now. But I have no choice. And, as predicted, I get ravaging breakouts. They eventually clear up, but it takes longer and longer each time, and sometimes there's scarring. The last surgery was in October, and I don't think my skin completely revived itself afterwards.

Secondly, I've been severely dieting lately. Because of these surgeries, I haven't been able to start school or a job or anything, so I'm stuck at home all day, and the last thing I want to do is park a chair in front of the fridge and gorge myself until I can't fit through the door. So mostly I've been eating as little as possible. Cereal bar for breakfast, cereal for lunch, usually a Lean Cuisine for dinner. And I've lost some weight. But I've skipped at least one period, and that rarely ever happens. Would anyone know if that could cause these breakouts?

I try everything. Currently, I'm using some Clearasil, but I'm not sure if it's working or not. The only product that had some impact was ProActiv, but it's really expensive, and you have to join the club in order to recieve it. Hopefully soon I'll see a dermotologist, but I could use some immediate advice. As you can probably understand, I don't even want to leave the *house* like this.

Also, if anyone knows what can be done to maybe lessen the impact of the steroids, that would help too. Or to make the pimples clear up faster, as I'll need another surgery within the next month or so.

My skin is really starting to dry up around my mouth and cheeks, and I look like a tomato. Please help if you can.

hi!, so, i dont want to appear rude or anything, but ive had an almost severe acne problem all my life and most of my friends have never had problems with that. so, it always *#!es me off whe they make a huge drama for two pimples! :(

honestly, i say to them, i wished i have those two damn pimples than these hundred i own!! so, im not saing it is your case, but dont get too alarmed for this small change. i believe its normal on everyone specially for someone whos been on this rollercoaster youve been lately! surgery, change of schedule, change of diet, stress...i rather say its perfectly normal..

my advice to you is to not use products that can overdry your skin, because when this stage goes away, your skin would be just as before, and if you try to use products for oily skin when you really have normal skin, the damage will be longlasting. also try to eat 5 low calorie healthy meals a day and (trust me on this) drink tons of water!!!... as for the tomato problem( ) the water will help, but you should also get an oil free mosturizer and use it under makeup during the day.

nutrition can definately have a big part of it yea sure its not true the chips and chocolate make u break out . im an esthetician so i know a lot about skin and that is a myth. ur diet is not healthy at all ur not getting the nutrients u need by eating a cereal bar for breakfast. and u NEED fat in ur diet to be healthy. just eat in moderation. and u need protein in ur diet big time. just look over the food pyramid

I know same thing here with me. I went to a dermatologist and for over a year they did a million differnet things. Till he put me on a drug called acutane. I needed my blood tested once a month and was on it for 6 months. I have no more acne and my face looks better then ever. I ocasionly get a pimple on my neck but thats it. I would talkt o your dematologist about it.

I use proactiv and it really seemed to help my skin. I also take daily vitamins. I especially recommend Vitamin E that REALLY seemed to help my skin. Also, stay away from alcohol (beer especially) because that could be the cause of your breakouts too.

Hi! I can understand your problem with steroids. When I was 12, I received a kidney transplant. It's been 13 years now and I still use steroids to prevent rejection. But when I was 12, It was HUGE prescriptions. Now it's very very low. But at 12, I gained 60 pounds that I lost since because I take less steroids. I had acne too (not only due to teenage years) and it's gone now. Try Neutrogena On the spot. It's a little cream and it dries out the pimples very fast. Also, i agree with Maggie, you need to eat more veggies. Do you drink a lot of water? It helps too. Good luck!

Hi there

well i have been having a lot of problems with dry skin lately also so i bought something called shea butter from ebay and it is really good, it has a lot of moisturising and healing properties so my skin hasnt been as dry or red after rubbing some on every morning and night for a few days. Something else which will really help keeping your skin healthy is drinking plenty of water as it will help revitalise and moisturize your skin, try for 6 glasses or so a day and you should notice the difference very soon!! Good luck

You also need to re-vamp your diet. This may be a little off the topic (depending on your views of food's effect on skin), but you're not getting nearly enough protein or vegetables. You'll feel so much better if you start eating better; I can guarantee that. I know you want to lose weight and all, but you'd be far better off trading in your cereal for a veggie and meat-filled salad.

It has also lightened my period because it works with your hormones.

Try Nature's Cure from Wal Mart. It's worked miracles on my skin. I haven't had a zit in months, and I was broken out before. If I think one is coming, before it ever reaches the surface, it's gone. It's fabulous and inexpensive.
