Healthy Diet?
Hey. I'm 13, 5'3", and 107 pounds at the doctors. A lot of my friends are underweight, so when I'm around them I seem almost fat. I am not fat, but I do have a lot of extra fat on my stomach, and I would like to get rid of it.

I don't want to go on a huge diet, but I need some kind of meal plan or tips on what to eat so I can lose weight healthily. Like eating like every day, just I need help choosing better things to eat. I absolutely love chocolate and ice cream and the cookies at our school. I tried giving them up, but I couldn't.

I also don't drink pop, and I am very picky about what I eat. That's why most diet plans don't work for me because I don't like half of the food. If you have any advice or a healthy meal plan I could follow for a while, please respond. Thank you so much if you can!

Age 13
5'3", 107 lbs

Your BMI is 19, and it is the 53rd percentile for age/gender. So, your weight is in the middle compared to others of your gender & age. However, the minimum you can weigh at your current height & age and still be ok is 87 pounds (5th percentile).

Now, your Calorie needs are as follows:

Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is 1261 Calories. With school and any other things you may do during the day, I presume you're lightly active. So, we will go with activity factor of 1.375. This gives you a base maintenance level of 1734.

1734
+9.3% -> thermogenic effect of food - since we don't know the exact composition of your diet, we will go with this. This is the value of the typical U.S. diet.
= 1895 Calories for maintenance

Recommended Calorie intakes for fat loss:

0.5 lb/week:
1624 Calories

1 lb/week:
1353 Calories

*these assume no starvation response.

To maximize the % of fat lost per pound of body weight, keep simple carbs very low.

alright, first off you are 13 and like people stated before me your body is just beginning to go through a lot of changes, and second off you aren't fat or over weight at all. As your bofy begins to change so will your weight and because you are still young you have nothing to worry about, it's when you are becoming obese or all you want to do is eat when you should start to worry about your weight. plus girls are suppose to be a lil bit fatter ( not saying that theres n e thing wrong with girls that are uber skinny) because when you are older and want to have children you will need it :)

okay first i would like to say... YOU ARE 13!, 13! do you know how many changes your body is going to go through in the next couple of years? besides, if you want a healthy body, you NEED fat, if you don't have it, your period wont be able to come regularly, due to a lack of cushion protecting that area, you'll probably have an inbalance of hormones, and all of this is going to cause inflates and deflates in the belly department, and if you have fat(im talking normal weight, not thin, not fat, just normal) you'll get your curves faster, and then the whole teenage thing will be over, trust me, i cant wait for mine to be over... All you can really do is make sure you dont eat an excess amount of junk food each day, having a cookie is fine... and if you want to exercise, do something fun, join a sport, or go swimming during the week... your body is going to change, dont fret if you gain 5 pounds your still growing...

Hunni your actually underweight, plus your only 13 years old most of your friends probably havent even developed properly yet. If you want to be healthy then drink plenty of water, eat loads of fruit and veg and take a healthy amount of exercise. Take care xx

While it differs from body type to body type, that is generally borderline underweight. Rather than trying to lose weight, you might want to start an exercise plan to help tone up. Gaining muscle will cause an increase in weight, but don't worry, it isn't fat.

At 5'3", 107lbs is borderline underweight.

Trust me, you don't have anything to worry about.

The healthy weight range for that height (I'm 5'3" too) is 110-140.

Why should you change yourself because your friends weigh less than you? There are lots and lots of girls out there who would LOVE to be at your weight. You are a perfect weight. Dont let your friends weight influence you so much. That's like wearing your hair the same way that they do or buying all of the same clothes. You are your own person and what's healthy for you may not be the same as it is for them. Respect your body and dont try to change it to look the same as your friends.

You shouldn't be dieting at 13, my dear. It's so sad.
