Swollen Throat?
Hi guys. I get strep throat at least once every two months, sometimes more. I went to a new doctor the last time; I had a sore throat (about two months ago), and my mom asked him about a tonsilectomy. He looked at all my records from before and said that all the other times the doctor never took a strep test even though they perscribed antibiotics, so I wouldn't be a good canidate becuase they wouldn't know if it was really strep or just a virus.
He did a throat culture on me, and it came back negitive so he decided to do somthing besides antibiotics. He put me on a low dose of the steriod Prednisone because he thought that my immune system was attacking the good bacteria in my tonsils. It made it go away for a while, but I hated the side effects even though I was only on it for five days. Now I have a sore throat and fever again. But this time it just feels weird to breathe and talk, and it's hard to swallow.
I looked at my tonsils and they don't look swollen at all, but my throat is red and feels very swollen. I was just wondering if I should have my mom make an appointment with an ENT to talk about a tonsilectomy or just go back to the normal doctor. Also, is it possible to have a swollen throat without swollen tonsils? Thanks.
