Jaw Surgery: Good, Bad, or just plain Ugly?

Good day everyone. Like a lot of people who have posted articles about jaw problems (TMD?) I too have a jaw problem (a horrible under bite, to be exact). I've gone to my orthodontist and they say that they can correct it with surgery and all, but my parents are very sceptical over whether the surgery will even work, or if it will cause more problems than it fixes . If anyone has already had this surgery, or knows someone who's had this surgery, would you please reply to this? Any help (or insight?) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Hello, My name is Jean and Im 25. I just had surgery a week ago to correct my overbite. My JAW is now wired shut for the next 3 weeks. I was in the hospital for 5 days. My lips swelled up and i had slight bruising but the pain was not all that bad. I thought it would be way worse! Everyone told me it was horrible but it was not that bad. Plus I was on pain killers. Dont listen to what everyone says listen to what your heart is telling you. So far I cannot tell if my bite has been corrected because Im wired but the doctor said surgery went well. I wish you lots of luck, it's your mouth so go for it. One word of caution though, I heard that you should have stopped growing before having this surgery so your bones dont move. Iam 25 so there was no problem if your under 18, check that out. Good luck Jean

i to, have to have this surgury, im starting my processes with braces soon my brother had it done, 2 or 3 months ago, it has made a huge difference he gets his braces off in about a month and his will be over as mine and my other brothers start im not going to lie to you, there is alot of pain envolved and for the first 3 weeks it looks so awful and as my brother said your in so much pain , but the pain goes away and ur left with if you have a good doctor, really great results if u want to contact me my email is yesidolikeicecream @ h o t m a i l. c o m luv caragh
