My Jaw POPS and locks up

Okay with me I have a problem when I eat my jaw will pop. If I open my mouth or move is to one side or the other it will pop. Sometimes it hurts but mostly it doesn't. Why is my jaw popping? I don't thing I have a huge problem but I do think I need to fix whatever is wrong before it hurts me really bad in the end. This has been going on for about a year or so. My sister gets really annoyed with the popping and it is embarrassing when my jaw locks up on me in front of guest. I feel stupid and I have to explain why my jaw does that. Should I think about going to a doctor?

Hey...it sounds like something my jaw does. I went to the doctor for it and he told me that it was a TMJ disorder. TMJ itself is the joint where your lower jaw connects to the skull. I had to get a night guard to wear when i go to sleep because I have this habit of grinding my teeth at night and clenching my teeth during the day when i'm stressed out or nervous. I had to get a mouth piece kinda like clear braces to wear during the day. It s a lot. I would go get it checked out now because as time goes on it gets worse, and you could end up having to get surgery, which is not . Good Luck!!

Yes, it sounds like you have lockjaw. If you were ever scrached by a rusty nail or bitten by a small creature you should surely go see a doctor. This may you in the future. Even if none of those things have happened still see a doctor.
